March 2012

Wilson Arch
(between Moab and Monticello)
Our big adventure in March was during Spring Break when we went to Utah to visit Regan's parents. We made our usual stop at Wilson Arch, right off the highway, for a quick hike. It's getting more dangerous as the kids are getting older... They want to run and jump and throw rocks. Maybe it's just me getting more anxious! We enjoyed our time visiting and Regan worked hard on many projects around their house. Wendy took the kids to Blanding to the Edge of the Cedars State Park. It's a really cool museum with lots of artifacts and pictures of Indian artifacts. Out back there are some ruins and the kids were able to climb down a ladder into one of the kiva's. There was also this amazing Sun Marker that not only told the time of day, but the month/season of the year, and astronomy events (archaeoastronomy). The next day we went to Hovenweep National Monument. That was really amazing! There were many ruins along a two mile trail in and around a canyon rim. Much more natural then Mesa Verde.
